Ahonui

How it works

Everything it does.

Every part of Ahonui: what it does, and what it won't do.

01 A break

Take a break from your apps.

Pick the apps. Tap once. They're blocked until the break ends.

  • Five minutes or all weekend.
  • Nothing to earn. No streak to lose.
  • A strict break has no End button. It ends when time's up, or with a gem.
  • Phone, Settings and any apps you choose are never blocked.

02 Milestones

Unblock apps as you go.

You don't have to hit the whole goal before anything unblocks. Messages at 16 oz, YouTube at 32, the rest at 64. The habit is done for the day at 64. You pick the order.

Open a blocked app and the block tells you what's next: “More apps unblock at 32 oz, the rest at 64 oz.”

03 Rest days

Rest days don't break your streak.

Set a habit for weekdays only, or pause it while a knee heals. Rest days and paused days are skipped, so your streak keeps going. Only falling short ends it.

Make up any habit and check it off yourself. Your apps stay blocked until you do.

04 Missed a day

Missed a day? You can get it back.

If you fall short, the streak ends. The next time you open Ahonui, it offers to put that day back with a streak cover.

You get streak covers at streak milestones, and friends can send you one.

  • Missing one day doesn't break a habit. Deciding you can't do it does. So Ahonui offers the day back before you get there.

05 Friends

Do it with a friend.

A friend sees that you've done three of five habits, and nothing else. Not your numbers, your meals or your medication. Do one habit together for a week, or race a dozen friends for a month in a quest.

Friends can send you a word, a short note that shows up on your block right when you're looking at it. They can send a streak cover for a day you fell short. And if you let them see when you use a gem, they can tease you about it.

06 Gems

Need an app early? Spend a gem.

Do every habit you scheduled for the day and that's a sweep. Each sweep earns a gem. A gem gets you past a block for 15 minutes, and it shows in your history. Doing the habit always unblocks it for free.

  • Getting past a block never breaks a streak. Falling short does.
The rock hunched, arms folded, frowning.

07 Medication

The pill first. Then the phone.

From each dose time, your apps stay blocked until the dose is logged in Health. Miss the morning dose and it asks for the afternoon one, not both.

No jokes here. Friends never see it, and the medication's name never leaves your phone.

08 Food

Log meals with a photo.

Most food logs want you to weigh your lunch. Ahonui asks for a photo and a serving size. Look up the numbers in a licensed food database when you want them, save the meals you eat every week, and set a calorie and protein goal if that helps.

The photo is what helps later. “490 calories” won't mean much next month. A picture shows you what you actually ate.

  • Take a photo, or pick one you already took.
  • Search the food database, or enter it by hand.
  • Save meals you eat often. Next time it's one tap.
  • Calories and protein show on Today, with your habits.

Your meal photos stay with your meals. Nothing analyzes them, no assistant you connect can see them, and they're never used to train anything.

09 Widgets

Log water without unlocking your phone. The app's unblocked by the time you open it.

Every habit has a widget for the Lock Screen, Home Screen, Control Center and StandBy. Log a glass there and it unblocks apps just like logging it in Ahonui. A fast or break that's running shows its clock in the Dynamic Island while you use other apps.

The fast widget counts down to the next milestone and names it. The weigh-in widget shows whether you've weighed in, never your weight.

10 Patterns

Three months, on one screen.

A streak only tells you about today. Patterns looks back over weeks or months and says what it finds in plain sentences, like a habit that slips on Thursdays, or fasts that end 40 minutes early.

Nothing here is a guess or a score. Each finding shows the days it's based on, so you can check it yourself.

  • Weight stayed steady at 178 lb over three months.
  • Water slipped three of the last five Thursdays.
  • Your fasts end 40 minutes early on average.
  • Every time you used a gem on a block, it was after 10pm.

11 Siri

Hands busy. Say it instead.

Tell Siri, even with your phone locked and the app closed, and it's logged. No signal? It's saved on your phone and syncs later.

  • “Log a glass in Ahonui”40 oz of 64 today.
  • “Log a meal in Ahonui”Lunch logged.
  • “Start a fast in Ahonui”Fast started. Your goal is 16h.
  • “How is my fast in Ahonui”12h 58m so far. Your goal is 16h.
  • “End my fast in Ahonui”10h 12m of 16h. If you end it now, it's logged as broken.
  • “Mark stretching done in Ahonui”Stretching is done for today.
  • “Take a break in Ahonui”Break started, 30 minutes.
  • “Snooze my blocks in Ahonui”Snooze 3 habits until the end of today?
  • “How is today in Ahonui”3 of 5 done, 12 sweeps in a row.

Siri can't end a strict break. It checks with you before it ends a fast early, snoozes a habit or throws out a fast.

12 Bring your own agent

Your agent, not ours.

We're not building you another chatbot. Ahonui connects to the AI assistant you already pay for, and it's included: nothing extra to buy, no credits to run out of.

Describe your lunch and it's logged, macros and all. It can log your day, pause a habit, set up a new one, and tell you how the month went: which days you did every habit, which habit slips first. Everything it does is marked as done by the assistant. It can never choose which apps are blocked. That choice stays on your phone.

ate a poke bowl and a spam musubi for lunch. how's the month going?

Logged: 690 cal, 74g carbs, 41g protein. Water is 11 days running. Movement slipped on three Tuesdays in a row.
